The Head of the Sierra Club’s Environmental Justice Program, Leslie Fields, and environmental justice consultant, Vernice Miller-Travis, spent May 29-30 in The Bahamas sharing insights on the evolution of the Environmental Justice movement in the U.S. with a focus on the unique development challenges facing  small island nations.

The two day visit took the speakers to the Exumas where they advised a community-based organization that is actively engaging at-risk youth through environmental stewardship projects.   Their visit also included meetings with the newly elected government and a roundtable with twenty civil society leaders, environmental advocates, business leaders, and academics.
