Twenty-three young members of the Scout Association of The Bahamas and 7 chaperones were invited by Captain John M. Dorey and the U.S. Embassy to celebrate the United States Independence Day on July 4 aboard the USS ANZIO docked in Nassau’s Prince George Warf.   The Scout Association of The Bahamas is currently celebrating its100th Anniversary as a way to demonstrate the unity of the global Scouting movement and illustrate the organization’s commitment to preserving nature and the environment.  The naval ship visit is part of the U.S. Embassy and United States Northern Command’s (USNORTHCOM) ongoing commitment to supporting local efforts that inspire and empower Bahamian youth.

“The Scouts of The Bahamas is doing great work to encourage young people to develop physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law—a value system shared by our own Boy Scouts of America,” explained the U.S. Embassy’s Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, John Armstrong.  “This ship visit is an opportunity to wish the Scouts a Happy Centennial and recognize Scout leaders for their commitment to investing in the future of The Bahamas.”
