U.S. Ambassador Rood Thanks Air Traffic Controllers
March 30, 2007
United States Ambassador John Darrell Rood recently toured the Control Tower at the Lynden Pindling Airport, and in a gesture of friendship and goodwill used the occasion to say thanks and farewell to the air traffic controllers and other staff for the outstanding work they perform in their job capacity. A pilot himself, Ambassador Rood said he is able to appreciate their demanding job responsibilities. He said it was great to be able to meet the skilled personnel with whom he often communicates when flying in and out of the airport. Ambassador Rood took a particular interest in the radars and other systems used to guide planes in safely. He emphasized the good partnership between The Bahamas and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, noting that he hoped The Bahamas could work with the FAA on the management of its airspace once The Bahamas established its own Flight Information Region.
Following the tour the staff met the Ambassador in the VIP Lounge for refreshments and got the opportunity to chat one on one with him. The tour was led by Mr. Joseph Albury, Director of Air Traffic Services. Mrs. Lorraine Armbrister, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation was also in attendance. Mr. Rood leaves the Bahamas in April after a two and a half year stint as U.S. Ambassador to the country.
