Cory Eldon and Patrick Thompson, final year students at the College of The Bahamas, will get a taste of a different academic environment when they enroll at the University of Rhode Island as seniors in January.
Cory, a biology and chemistry major, and Patrick, a math major, will matriculate as exchange students as a part of the ongoing Rhode Island National Guard State Partnerahip Program with The Bahamas. The exchange marks the first academic partnership component of the Rhode Island State Partnership Program. Both Cory and Patrick will spend the spring semester at the university of Rhode Island and will graduate with a bachelor's Degree from the College of The Bahamas in May, 2007.
During a recent courtesy call with Dr. D. Brent Hardt, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission, Corey and Patrick discussed their expectations for the exchange and expressed their thanks and appreciation for the opportunity. Dr. Hardt, who hails from Rhode Island, shared his insights on the State of Rhode Island and encouraged them to take advantage of the many cultural and academic opportunities that await them during their exchange.
Dr. Hardt noted that this educational exchange marked an important step forward in the rapidly developing Bahamas-Rhode Island State Partnership that would bring lasting benefits to The Bahamas and Rhode Island.
The Rhode Island State Partnership Program has also led to collaborative efforts between The Bahamas and the state of Rhode Island in disaster preparedness, economic development, fire-fighting, prison guard and law enforcement training.
