U.S. Embassy sponsors Anti-Terrorism Training for Officers of the RBPF and Turks and Caicos Police Force
December 28, 2006
Twenty officers of the Royal Bahamian Police Force and five police officers from the Turks and Caicos completed a five week training course on crisis response. The course was held from November 6 through December 8 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Anti-Terrorist Assistance Program through the Embassy’s Regional Security Office.
Over the five week period, the course taught officers the principles of organizing, commanding and conducting hostage rescue operations, including perfecting tactics for assaulting stronghold positions, riot control, dealing with suicide bombers, and advanced marksmanship. Most of the course sessions were conducted on outdoor firing ranges and on training facilities consisting of the types of buildings and structures that officers would encounter in actual crisis situations.
The course is part of an ongoing worldwide effort to develop local capacity to deal with crisis situations and build law enforcement cooperation.
