U.S. Embassy sponsors Anti-Terrorism Training for local RBDF Officer
October 23, 2006
Sub Lieutenant Ricardo Barry of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force recently completed a two-week training course on “Civil Military Responses to Terrorism”. The course was held September 9-22 in Monterey, California and his trip was sponsored by the U.S. Southern Command through the Embassy’s Navy Liaison Office.
Participants included representatives from Europe, South and Central America, the Middle East, South Asia and the Caribbean. Over the two week period, the course exposed the need for global cooperation in the fight against terrorism and also addressed current events that impact The Bahamas on a regional and international level.
As a follow up to his trip, Sub Lt. Barry paid a courtesy call on U.S. Ambassador John D. Rood and noted, “The course gave me a better understanding of terrorism, its trends and the desperate need for countering it. The knowledge I gained has reinforced my understanding for the need to continue our National Counter Terrorism efforts”. The Embassy’s Navy Liaison Office provided the funding as part of continuing efforts to enhance security cooperation between the United States and The Bahamas.
