U.S. Embassy employees donate eighteen-pints of blood to Doctor's Hospital's Blood Bank
April 11, 2008
On April 9, the United States Embassy continued its ongoing commitment to donate blood to those in need through an on-site blood drive for employees. Twenty-six American and Bahamian staff volunteers participated in the life-saving effort.
The event took place in the Spiers Room at the Embassy which was transformed into a mini blood bank with the assistance of Doctor’s Hospital Medical Technicians Dawnette Been and Staria Ferguson.
The Embassy’s Registered Nurse Marilyn Young noted that she was very pleased with the number of volunteers who together donated a total of eighteen pints of blood. She further commented that although the goal was to break the previous record of twenty-one pints of blood, the Embassy looks to exceed that number during a second blood drive to be held later this year. The Embassy facilitates two blood drives each year, donating blood to both Doctor’s Hospital and the Princess Margaret Hospital.
