2006 Press Releases

New air travel procedures announced by U.S. Embassy

August 10, 2006

The United States Embassy announced today that as a result of the terror plot uncovered in the United Kingdom, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is taking immediate steps to increase security measures in the aviation sector.  These measures will continue to assure that our aviation system remains safe and secure.  Travelers should go about their plans confidently, while maintaining vigilance in their surroundings and exercising patience with screening and security officials.

The Embassy has advised that travelers departing from the Lynden Pindling International Airport and the Grand Bahama International Airport will not be allowed to carry liquids into the cabin of the aircraft, including beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency.  Passengers will be allowed essential medicines and, if a baby or small child is traveling, baby formula, breast milk, or juice.

Travelers are encouraged to arrive early to the airport in the event that new procedures lead to delays.  If possible, travelers are also encouraged to check in all baggage to speed up processing.  At this time, no major delays have been reported.  The Embassy appreciates the cooperation of the traveling public.
