April 9, 2008
On April 5 and 6, U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas Ned L. Siegel and his wife Stephanie hosted an event to bring U.S. federal government and Florida state, city and county officials, along with U.S. business persons together with senior Bahamian government and business persons. Among the invited guests were the Governor General of The Bahamas Arthur D. Hanna and Mrs. Hanna, Attorney General Claire Hepburn, Minister of State for Tourism, the Minister of State for Tourism and Aviation Branville McCartney, Minister of State for Energy Phenton Neymor, Minister of State for Culture Charles Maynard, Senator Allyson Maynard-Gibson, and M.P. and former Foreign Minister Fred Mitchell. Senior officials from the Boca Raton/Palm beach communities included the Commissioner of Palm Beach Bert Aranson, the Chair of the Palm Beach Film Festival Yvonne Boice, Palm Beach County Commissioner Mary McCarty, former Mayor of Delray Beach Tom Lynch, and several Boca Raton City Council representatives.
In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Siegel noted that the "Bahamian Bash" brought together government, business and cultural leaders to enjoy “The best of The Bahamas.” He noted that the gathering was indicative of his commitment to promote deeper partnerships between the U.S. and The Bahamas. Ambassador Siegel re-affirmed his desire to promote people-to-people connections and develop partnerships on many levels.
On Sunday, April 6 the Ambassador treated his U.S. guests to some true Bahamian culture with a dazzling junkanoo rush-out with the Atlantis Marina Village and Colours junkanoo groups. The Ambassador hopes that the experience and connections from the Saturday dinner and Sunday events will open new doors for business and governmental partnerships between the United States and The Bahamas.
