U.S. Embassy celebrates the 231st Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America

The United States of America celebrated its 231st Anniversary of Independence on Wednesday, July 4, 2007. The U.S. Embassy marked the occasion at the residence of the U.S. Ambassador, Liberty Overlook, at 21 Sandford Drive. This year, Chargè d’Affaires, Dr. Brent Hardt and Mrs. Hardt hosted the event that highlighted the ongoing Rhode Island State Partnership Program with The Bahamas established in the areas of commerce, education and disaster preparedness.
Ms. Lori-Ann Edwards, an 11th grade student at C.V. Bethel Senior High School who placed fourth in the U.S. Embassy’s sponsored essay competition on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. held earlier this year served as the Mistress of Ceremony. The Carmichael Primary School Choir sang the Bahamian National Anthem, and the U.S. National Anthem was performed by Jerome Hill, a Fraud Prevention Analyst in the Embassy’s Consular Section. A colorful honor guard was displayed by the U.S. Marine Corps Nassau Detachment. Remarks were given by Dr. Brent Hardt and the Governor General, His Excellency, the Hon. Arthur D. Hanna. The 88th Rhode Island National Guard Band, under the direction of Commanding Officer WOC Todd Garrepy provided the live entertainment for the evening.
