Medical Visas

To travel to the US for a medical appointment, please have the following documents with you when you apply for a visa.  If you already have a B1/B2 visa, you will need these documents to show to the Homeland Security officer at the pre-clearance facility or at the US airport.

  • A report or statement from your local doctor stating the reason for the medical treatment and why you need to go to the US for treatment.
  • Evidence of your medical appointment in the US such as a document that shows the date and time of appointment and the name of the doctor and the clinic or hospital in US that you’ll be visiting.
  •  A letter or other document from the US hospital or clinic that states the actual or estimated cost of the medical treatment you will be receiving.  Be sure to include doctors’ fees, hospital fees, costs of anesthesiology and any additional services that you’ll need for your treatment.
  • A letter from the US physician and/or hospital indicating that they have accepted your payment arrangements and that no public funds will be used to meet these obligations.
  • Evidence that you have adequate funds to pay for the costs of the medical treatment you’ll receive in the US, in addition to covering the costs of travel, hotel stays, meals, etc.
