Embassy Nassau commemorates 6th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America
September 11, 2007
To mark the 6th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Embassy Nassau staff gathered at the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence, Liberty Overlook, in a solemn ceremony to honor the memory of the victims of 9/11. U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Brent Hardt read U.S. President George W. Bush’s 2007 Patriot Day message and delivered brief remarks. "As more years separate us from the events of September 11th, it is ever more important for us to remember not only what happened that day," Dr. Hardt said, "but what happened next. How our friends and neighbors pledged their support for us in our hour of need. The Bahamas, a true and stalwart friend, stood with us, along with friends and allies throughout the world, pledging support and providing us comfort as a nation in our time of need. We remember this, and we remain thankful." Following the unveiling of the a stone marker next to the tree planted on the 5th anniversary in memory of the victims of September 11th, the ceremony concluded at 8:46 a.m. -- the moment of the first attack -- with the observance of a moment of silence.
