The United States Embassy celebrated the 233rd Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America with two celebrations this year, the first in Freeport, Grand Bahama on Wednesday, July 1 and the second in Nassau on Thursday, July 2.

This was the first time that the Embassy hosted an official Independence Day celebration on Grand Bahama.  This year’s celebration also marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln.

T
he 4th of July reception was held in the Pavilion at Our Lucaya Beach & Golf Resort.  U.S. Chargè d’Affaires a.i., Timothy Zúñiga-Brown, and The Hon. Kenneth Russell, Minister of Housing and National Insurance brought remarks.

The ceremony also featured character actors representing President and Mrs. Lincoln, performed by Larry and Mary Elliot, a husband and wife team from Kentucky.

Earlier in the day the President and Mrs. Lincoln re-enactors paid a visit to the YMCA summer camp and spoke about the lives of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln in the White House.  Students had an opportunity to interact and take photographs with the re-enactors.
