U.S. Embassy to celebrate 233rd Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America

The United States Embassy will celebrate the 233rd Anniversary of the
Independence of the United States of America with two celebrations this year, one in Freeport, Grand Bahama on Wednesday, July 1 and the other in New Providence on Thursday, July 2.  This is the first time that the Embassy will host an official Independence celebration on Grand Bahama.  This year’s celebration theme is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln”. 

In Grand Bahama, the 4th of July Official Reception for invited guests will be held in the Pavillion at Our Lucaya Beach & Golf Resort. 

Speakers will include U.S. Chargè d’Affaires a.i., Timothy Zúñiga-Brown, and a Bahamian government official.

A special feature of the ceremony will be a performance by character actors representing President and Mrs. Lincoln performed by Larry and Mary Elliot, a husband and wife team. Also, the Abraham and Mrs. Lincoln re-enactors will visit the YMCA Summer camp and put on a brief performance on the lives of Abraham and Mrs. Mary Lincoln in the White House. 

The celebration in New Providence on Thursday, July 2 also for invited guests will include remarks by Chargè d’Affaires a.i, Timothy Zúñiga-Brown and Governor General His Excellency Arthur D. Hanna. 

The ceremony will also include a special appearance by character actors representing President and Mrs. Mary Todd Lincoln.  Dressed in period costume, re-enactors Larry and Mary Elliott will present a historically correct dramatization of the lives of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln.  Entertainment will be provided by the Royal Bahamas Defense Force Band.
